The changes that a young woman’s body goes through during puberty are confusing at the best of times! This blog will assist in making the changes you’re experiencing feel less overwhelming and confusing, and will empower you (we hope) to have discussions about your body more openly as you become a woman.
Trust me, you are not alone! What you are experiencing is totally normal (even though it feels like it isn’t!). These changes as we enter puberty are an entirely normal part of becoming a woman, but what we may not be fully aware of is how those changes can affect our vaginal health.
Let’s get the facts straight!
What is pH? Why is it important, what causes a pH imbalance and how it affects your vaginal health?
Your amazing vagina, maintains a balanced level of pH (a balance between alkaline and acidity). pH is measured on a scale from 0 to 14 (anything below 7 is acidic, anything above is alkaline)1a.
A healthy Happy Vagina’s pH levels lean toward slightly acidic, with an ideal pH being 3.8-4.51b.
Why is pH important?
An acidic pH level is ideal for protective vaginal bacteria and a healthy vaginal environment. An ideal pH level will ensure that good bacteria prevent overgrowth of bad bacteria that cause infections2a (infections that could make your vagina itchy, have an undesirable smell or give you overall discomfort)2b.
Like the rest of your body, your vagina will respond to changes brought about by unprotected sexual intercourse, antibiotics, douching, hygiene and menstruation1c. Menstrual hygiene products that absorb rather than collect menses such as tampons (which holds blood inside your vagina for longer than your body intended) tend to disrupt your vaginal pH and encourage bacterial or yeast growth. All these changes are very natural.
It is super important to maintain excellent daily hygiene practices and avoid using harsh soaps or cleansers as these also can affect a healthy pH balance3.
Maintaining good daily hygiene is easy with GynaGuard’s Essential Intimate wash. It is specially formulated with probiotics and is colourant and fragrance free. But most importantly supports and restores a healthy pH balance4. It washes away odour causing germs, and helps to prevent itching and irritation.
Trust that using GynaGuard’s products daily will keep you clean and confident. Be empowered.
